EXCEPTIONAL BEEF
Based in Boyup Brook in Western Australia’s South West, Blackwood Valley Beef is part of the family-run Wyloo Pastoral Co, owned and operated by Warren and Lori Pensini. The Pensini family’s roots in cattle farming stretch back generations, beginning in the Pilbara before moving south in 2001 to establish their home base in the beautiful Blackwood Valley.
What hasn’t changed over the years is their dedication to producing exceptional quality beef. From breeding and backgrounding to finishing, Warren’s lifelong experience in the beef industry ensures every animal is raised with care and expertise. The result is premium grass-fed beef, recognised for its outstanding tenderness and flavour.
FARMING FOR THE FUTURE
At the heart of Blackwood Valley Beef is a philosophy of “farming for the future, not for today.” The Pensinis are committed to producing high-quality beef in a way that enhances, rather than harms, the land they farm.
Their approach is built around regenerative farming practices designed to restore soil health, improve water cycles and protect biodiversity. Through careful grazing management, they maintain 100% ground cover year-round and strategically rest pastures to encourage regrowth. They’ve also introduced perennial pasture species to boost productivity naturally, reducing the need for artificial inputs.
REGENERATING THE LAND
In recent years, the Pensinis have embarked on an ambitious landscape rehydration project. The project focuses on using plants and water to grow more soil, essentially rebuilding the natural systems that make the landscape thrive.
Over 35,000 mixed native trees have been planted to help retain water, provide shelter for livestock and create new wildlife habitats. Contour banks have been built to slow and capture rainfall, helping replenish the land. These efforts are part of a long-term goal to restore the upper reaches of the Blackwood River catchment and make the operation effectively carbon neutral over time.
Warren explains, “We’re really just babysitting this country for the next generation. If we can employ methods that help others to be more sustainable and productive, that’s a responsibility we’re proud to take on.”
The Pensinis efforts were recently recognised, with Warren being named the 2025 South West Soil Health Champion.
HIGH QUALITY, LOW IMPACT BEEF
Blackwood Valley Beef’s regenerative approach means every animal is raised with care and respect. Cattle roam free on lush pastures, with no added hormones (HGP free) and no routine antibiotics. Their diet is 100% natural, consisting of pasture, hay and legume-based feed, never grain.
The result is premium beef with minimal environmental impact, known for its natural tenderness, full-bodied flavour and exceptional eating quality.
BEST BEEF
The quality of Blackwood Valley Beef was recently recognised at the 2025 Perth Royal Food Awards, where they took home three major honours — Champion Grass-Fed Beef, Champion Single Origin Beef, and Champion WA Beef.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see years of hard work and commitment to regenerating our pastures recognised,” says Warren. “Producing consistent grass-fed beef in WA isn’t easy, so to win these awards in our first year entering was a real surprise.”
This award-winning beef is available exclusively at Bunbury Farmers Market and Vasse Village by Bunbury Farmers Market, allowing our guests to experience the exceptional flavour and quality that’s earned national acclaim.
